The Mathematics Lover’s Companion: Masterpieces For Everyone

My notes

Why I’m reading this book

I love math. I’m not good at it. But I do love it. And I love the idea of presenting mathematics as art. Art reminds me that it’s okay to appreciate something for what it is, not for what it can do. And so while this book talks about what math can do, its main focus seems to be conveying what math is and teaching us to appreciate it too.

Preface

The preface has me hooked already. Everything from talking about that we know for certain there are an infinite number of primes to the fact that you can cover a room in square, hexagonal and even pentagons. And it mentions how the pattern on the cover of the book was created. If I have time, I may try to generate it myself.
